I Love Cheat Day!
The wife and I have had a great deal of success on the slow-carb diet. A key component of this diet is one day a week, you take a day off and eat whatever you want, how much you want. Oh, the glory of the cheat day...

Monday, February 16, 2015
What an odd few weeks it has been. One morning, I decided to fast. I ate a good sized meal Friday morning, figuring that I would realize a massive decrease. Nooooooooo! I gained six pounds!!!!!!!! Bizarre? Yes. Make any sense? No. But...
...but, on cheat day, I gained only .2 pounds.
...but maybe this just proves that daily fluctuations mean nothing, and you want to look at overall trends.
...but still, my weight is tracking between 165 and 170; I would much prefer that it track between 155 to 160, or at least 165 to 170. On the plus side, I know that I am eating way too much sugar on cheat day.
And on another positive note, we now have an Indian buffet nearby in Gainesville - yes, it was yummy!!!!

Saturday, January 10, 2015 (Less than Usual)
This is the week that I (sort of) got back on track. We knew we going to Nora, a Lebanese restaurant. We went there because we knew we could get a tasty protein and vegetable heavy meal, along with some appetizers that were not diet compliant, but still had some high nutritional value (like falafel with pita bread (falafel yes, pita no)).
The day still started with too many cookies (a whole sleeve of these golden Oreos) as well as some cereal. At night, it was finishing off a (huge) bowl of pistachio ice cream.
Weight change: 4.8 pounds. Much better than past weeks. Kept the weight under 170, at 169.8 to be specific. Day before cheat day - sitting at 164.8. Let's see if on Sunday we can get under that 169.

Friday, January 9, 2015 - Day Before Cheat Day
Can a cheat day wreck progress? You betcha. Tonight, I'm at 167 pounds before a cheat day. I was tracking near 160 before a cheat day, sometimes under. There are a few things that wrecked it.
1. Out of control cheat days. Some of cheat days in the past two months ticked up six, seven, and at least one time, eight pounds. Do that consistently, and you WILL creep back up. And when I mean out of control, I mean CAN'T...STOP...EATING...
2. My thriftiness doesn't help either. Free chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant? Yep. Non-menu compliant appetizer (with another coupon)? Again, yep.
3. Nuts. For the most part, this is not the problem; however, in excess, they are a problem. During the week, too many nuts.
Body fat percentage is correlating with weight. When near 160, body fat is near 11 percent; at 167, body fat is above 13 percent.
Goal 1 is 158.2. That would give me a recorded weight of 100 pounds lost since I started writing it down. Goal 2 is less than 10 percent body, which would be around 155 pounds.
So as of tonight, 12 pounds to go (not counting cheat day). It is the time of resolutions, after all.

Friday, December 12, Day Before Cheat Day
I've been exceedingly poor about posting, so here is what I'll say. For the past few weeks, I have been only mostly compliant to the diet. We went to Texas de Brazil a few weeks ago on a Tuesday. Last Friday, Beth and I had Mexican with her dad, so I ate the free chips and salsa. Today, we had a coupon for free fried pickles at Chili's, so we had that.
None of this is terrible. Weight was around 163 this morning, so it seems like I hover between 160 and 165. Would still like to crack the nine percent body fat (currently in the 12s), but we'll see what will happen.
This last five to ten pounds is undoubtedly the hardest.

November 1, 2014 (Absinthe Edition)
Decided to start off with a healthy salad and a bit of quince paste that Beth got me (it was really good). Then had some popcorn, blueberry newtons (whole wheat! for what that's worth), and a bunch of chewy Reese's Chips Ahoy.
Lunch was at Longhorn. Started with calamari, salad, bread, and then had a steak with half a potato and some broccoli.
After being home for a bit, had a donut and some candy.
Then decided to have some absinthe mixed with ginger ale (it really is awesome). And then things got weird. At least I'm told.
Here's what happened the next morning - there were facebook postings I don't remember posting. When I came downstairs, I noticed the quince paste was gone. I thought to myself, "Beth must have finished it!" If only...
It turns out, I finished off that paste, but along with a few other things, I don't remember it. Beth was nice enough to inform me: "You kept saying this quince paste is soooooooooo good, you've got to try it. Then you dropped your spoon, and began commenting about how you lost your spoon. While I was playing Destiny, you kept yelling 'Vault of Glass! Vault of Glass!' because I haven't done that level yet. My sister asked how lit were you..."
Apparently pretty lit. That package of Chips Ahoy? Empty when I came downstairs. Later on that morning, I also found a stray newton in my chair. Beth was good enough to not throw me out of the house and also commended me for not puking or wetting the bed.
Weight gain: 5.2 pounds. Not bad considering I don't remember what I ate after six o'clock. Moral of this story - absinthe should be taken in much moderation.

October 25, 2014
It seems like I didn't stop eating today. Started with a salad, followed by some cereal, Little Debbie, cookies, and chips (I ended up finishing that thing of cookies).
Beth and I participated in the Blood and Guts Run, a 5K obstacle course filled with zombies.
Beth's dad was nice enough to come up and take pictures. After the run, I had a protein bar. Later, we went to the local Chinese buffet, where I ate more than usual (so you do actually work up an appetite after exercising). Started off with tempura vegetables, spring rolls, Teriyaki chicken, beef roll, dumplings, and probably some other stuff. Was very hungry, so everything tasted better than usual. Had two more plates of different types of chicken, seafood, meats and vegetables, and then finally had few things for dessert.
Could I have stopped there? Sure - but I didn't. Nuts and candy followed, then later on I finished off that thing of cookies and had Pop Tarts.
Weight Gain: Is it any wonder that I gained a whopping 6.8 pounds? Probably not.

October 18, 2014
We had no clue where we were going, but we knew the day was going to start with guac. With that and some chips, had a bowl of Cheerios, some fig newtons and some cookies.
After a workout, it was a protein shake with some of Beth's buckwheat pancakes and a big bowl of berries and three peaches (LOTS of fruit).
Lunch was at Panera, with a flatbread sandwich and a salad. Later, it was some candy, some cookies, and a big bowl of ice cream.
Weight gain: Trust me - I ate a lot of sweets today, but with all the fiber and less than normal at lunch, the weight gain was only 3.8 pounds.
